Acute Medicine Consultant

About the role

We are seeking a dynamic Acute Medicine Consultant to join the largest acute medical consultant team in the South West at North Bristol NHS Trust. The role is full‑time (10 programmed activities) with flexibility for part‑time or job‑share arrangements for the right candidate.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality acute medical care in a busy Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and its associated triage, Enhance Care and short‑stay areas.
• Lead and support transformational change in service delivery, focusing on patient safety and timely care.
• Oversee the Acute Medical Triage pathway, the Enhance Care Unit (including NIV and HFNO), and the Short Stay function.
• Participate in Same‑Day Emergency Care (SDEC) to provide cross‑specialty admission avoidance for around 40 patients daily.
• Collaborate with the Acute Frailty Unit and multidisciplinary teams to optimise patient outcomes.

Required profile

• Consultant‑level experience in acute medicine with a passion for innovation.
• Ability to work effectively in a high‑pressure, fast‑paced hospital environment.
• Willingness to embrace new ways of working and contribute to service improvement.
• Open to flexible working patterns, including LTFT and job‑share options.

Required skills

• Non‑invasive ventilation (NIV) expertise.
• High‑flow nasal oxygen (HFNO) proficiency.
• Experience with Same‑Day Emergency Care (SDEC) pathways.
