Advanced Practitioner – Urgent Care (Lead)

About the role

The Lead Advanced Practitioner will deliver high‑quality urgent care to patients attending the Urgent Treatment Centre in Pontefract and the Integrated Urgent Care Stream at Dewsbury. Working autonomously within the multidisciplinary team, the role combines clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of acute and primary‑care presentations.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and treat patients with undifferentiated illnesses, initiating investigations and evidence‑based management.
• Provide initial clinical diagnosis and refer to specialist services when required.
• Discharge patients safely after appropriate assessment and treatment.
• Manage life‑threatening presentations, including cardiac arrest and major acute illness.
• Make autonomous decisions on complex cases, escalating when necessary.
• Act as a role model for staff, promoting best practice in urgent care.

Required profile

• Qualified health professional with expert knowledge of urgent care services.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong clinical judgement and accountability for day‑to‑day patient care.
• Registered with the appropriate professional body (e.g., HCPC).
