Assistant Designer – Textiles

About the role

Matalan is seeking an Assistant Designer for its Textiles division, based at the Liverpool headquarters. This permanent, full‑time position works closely with senior designers and buying teams to develop commercially relevant seasonal ranges. You will own defined product areas and translate emerging trends and customer insights into appealing textile products.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with senior designers, buying, merchandising, technical and marketing colleagues.
• Take day‑to‑day ownership of specific product categories.
• Interpret emerging trends and customer insights to create resonant textile designs.
• Support the end‑to‑end product development process from concept through to store execution.
• Contribute to both in‑store and online product offerings.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Trainee or Junior Designer.
• Strong commercial awareness of the fashion and homeware market.
• Ability to work collaboratively across multiple functions.
• Commitment to an inclusive recruitment process.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.
