Assistant Practitioner – Mammography (Breast Screening)

About the role

The NHS Ayrshire and Arran Breast Screening Department is seeking an Assistant Practitioner to join its multidisciplinary team. Working across static and mobile sites, you will help deliver a safe, high‑quality mammography service to the community.

Key responsibilities

• Perform delegated clinical imaging procedures, primarily screening mammography, under supervision of registered radiographers.
• Support equipment quality assurance and routine maintenance.
• Assist with patient preparation, care, and documentation to ensure a positive experience.
• Contribute to workflow efficiency and service capacity while adhering to national screening standards and IRMER regulations.
• Participate in administrative tasks and service development initiatives.

Required profile

• Educated to SCQF level 7 (e.g., HNC in Healthcare Practice, HNC Radiography Support) or equivalent experience with direct patient contact.
• Willingness to complete a recognised Assistant Practitioner Mammography training programme and obtain a Higher Education Certificate in Mammography (SABI) if required.
• Valid UK driving licence.
