Backend Engineer

About the role

Happl is building an AI‑first platform that streamlines employee benefits, allowances, payments and wellbeing. As a Backend Engineer you will design, develop and scale the core services that power this global solution.

Key responsibilities

• Design and scale backend architecture for a global, AI‑first benefits platform.
• Build and own core services covering benefits, allowances, payments and reporting.
• Develop scalable data models and ensure data integrity across systems.
• Improve platform reliability, performance, security and observability.
• Automate workflows and rule‑based processes to streamline complex operations.
• Collaborate with product, frontend, data and customer teams to deliver end‑to‑end features.
• Write clean, well‑tested, production‑ready code and contribute to architecture decisions.

Required profile

• 3+ years of experience as a Backend or Software Engineer.
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to thrive in fast‑moving environments.
• Clear communicator comfortable with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Proactive, detail‑oriented and comfortable taking responsibility for production systems.

Required skills

• Modern backend languages and frameworks: Typescript, Golang.
• API design and consumption: REST, event‑driven architectures.
• Database expertise: SQL, PostgreSQL and data modelling.
• Cloud infrastructure and CI/CD workflows.
• Experience integrating third‑party services.
• Use of AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Claude) in development workflows.
