Backend Engineer (London)

About the role

As a Backend Engineer at ARQARQ, you will design, develop, and maintain scalable, secure, and high‑performing backend systems that power our fintech products. You will work closely with a talented cross‑functional team to create solutions that drive financial inclusion and transform how people manage money across borders.

Key responsibilities

• Lead greenfield development and improve existing backend services.
• Build RESTful APIs and engineer microservices for core functionalities such as card payments, treasury management, transaction booking, and crypto liquidity.
• Maintain and optimise PostgreSQL databases.
• Apply clean‑code principles, Test‑Driven Development (TDD), Domain‑Driven Design (DDD) and CI/CD pipelines for fast, reliable delivery.

Required profile

• Proven experience in backend development with strong Java expertise.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering or related fields.
• Quick learner with an ambitious, results‑driven attitude and excellent English communication skills.
• Track record of building complex products used by millions in fast‑growing startups.
