Band 2 Emergency Department Receptionist – 30 hrs/week

About the role

The Band 2 Emergency Department Receptionist is the first point of contact for patients and visitors at Heartlands Hospital. Working 30 hours per week, you will support the smooth operation of the ED by handling registration, documentation and communication tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Register all new patients, including ambulance arrivals, and input accurate data into the Trust's Patient Administration System (PAS).
• Generate and print required documentation such as CAS cards, admission forms and trauma alert registers.
• Update patient details promptly, admit non‑ED patients to other wards, and ensure records appear on the Clinical Portal.
• Notify clinical staff of urgent cases (e.g., chest pain, possible CVA) and prepare trauma alert paperwork.
• Answer telephone enquiries courteously and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

Required profile

• GCSE grade C or above in English Language and Maths, or equivalent work experience.
• Good level of education and ability to work in a fast‑paced, patient‑focused environment.
• Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the Patient Administration System (PAS).
• Experience using the Clinical Portal for document scanning and verification.
