Business Assurance Auditor

About the role

The Business Assurance Auditor will join the Distribution Business Assurance Team to support the Business Assurance Manager in delivering the annual audit plan for the electricity distribution business. Working flexibly across SSE offices in Scotland or Southern England, you will help ensure that audit outcomes add real value and clarify root causes of material issues.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, scope, and execute end‑to‑end audits, including drafting terms of reference, stakeholder engagement, fieldwork, and testing.
• Analyse findings, grade risks, and produce clear reports, taking ownership of corrective actions through to closure.
• Develop and run audit test plans using interviews and evidence‑based testing methods.
• Maintain audit and action records, provide leadership reporting, and liaise with other lines of defence.
• Support wider assurance activities such as compliance programmes and ad‑hoc projects directed by senior assurance leadership.

Required profile

• Proven experience in auditing with practical application of audit techniques and test‑plan development.
• Strong knowledge of the UK legal and regulatory framework, including statutory licence obligations and corporate governance.
• Clear understanding of risk management, business governance, internal controls, and assurance models.
• Good working knowledge of electricity distribution network operations.
• Demonstrated ability to influence, negotiate, and manage complex stakeholder relationships.
• Full, current UK driving licence.
