Consultant – Older People and Stroke Service

About the role

The NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is recruiting a Consultant in Geriatric Medicine with a specialist interest in frailty and stroke. This split‑site position will be based at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, with potential duties at Inverclyde Royal Hospital, delivering integrated stroke and frailty services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide consultant‑led stroke medicine, including participation in the HASU rota at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.
• Support acute stroke admissions and outpatient services at Inverclyde Royal Hospital.
• Deliver comprehensive geriatric assessment within the frailty team on an acute assessment ward.
• Lead a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals to ensure high‑quality, patient‑centred care.
• Contribute to service development, teaching, and quality improvement across both sites.

Required profile

• Full GMC registration and qualification in Geriatric Medicine.
• Specialist interest and demonstrable experience in frailty and stroke medicine.
• Strong clinical background with the ability to manage complex older patients.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work across multiple sites.

Required skills

• Clinical expertise in stroke medicine and acute stroke pathways.
• Proficiency in comprehensive geriatric assessment.
• Leadership of multidisciplinary teams.
