Data Architect (Fixed‑Term Contract)

About the role

Defaqto is seeking an experienced Data Architect on a fixed‑term contract (initially 3 months) to lead the design of a new market data model. The role can be based in either the London or Haddenham office and will work closely with the CTO and Head of Data.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse and challenge the initial logical architecture centred on Package, Component, Attribute, and Market entities.
• Validate the model against real business requirements and produce a signed‑off, technology‑agnostic logical data model.
• Provide a detailed implementation recommendation aligned with Defaqto’s existing lakehouse platform (Google BigQuery) and technology stack.
• Facilitate stakeholder workshops, capture business rules for deduplication, ratings hierarchy, and attribute priority.
• Document the model and recommendations to enable a senior Data Engineer to build and maintain the solution without further contractor dependency.

Required profile

• Proven experience designing enterprise‑scale data architectures and logical data models.
• Strong understanding of market data products and research data platforms.
• Ability to work independently, challenge assumptions, and deliver clear, actionable recommendations.
• Excellent communication skills for workshops and senior stakeholder sign‑off.
