Dental Health Support Worker – Children & Families

About the role

The Dental Health Support Worker will join a multi‑disciplinary team delivering oral health and nutrition support to families and children under the Dental Public Health programmes. Working under the team leader, you will provide home‑based and community interventions that help families maintain good oral health for their children.

Key responsibilities

• Contact parents and carers of newborns to discuss oral health needs and provide advice.
• Deliver practical support and advice at home or in community settings, following the Childsmile protocol.
• Provide intensive home support during the first year of life, aligned with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde policies such as the Infant Feeding Strategy.
• Facilitate access to oral health promotion, preventive, and treatment services across community and primary‑care dental settings.
• Work collaboratively with the Child and Family Health Team and Public Health Nurse to identify families requiring additional support.

Required profile

• SVQ Level 3 in Health Care or equivalent experience in a caring environment.
• Ability to work as part of a multi‑disciplinary or agency team.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Good organisational abilities and capacity to manage client care in a busy setting.
• Capability to work without direct supervision.
• Full driving licence.
