Hardware Design Engineer (EC&I)

About the role

Amentum is looking for an EC&I Hardware Design Engineer to join its team in Birchwood Park, Warrington or Moor Row, Cumbria. The role supports the delivery of complex control and automation systems in the nuclear sector, focusing on the design and development of control system hardware such as enclosures, panels and interface systems. You will work in a multi-disciplinary engineering team on safety-critical projects from concept through manufacture and installation.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop electrical enclosures, control panels and interface systems
• Produce detailed AutoCAD drawings and design packages
• Manage general assemblies, I/O schedules, cable calculations and routing, and power load and heat calculations
• Support design reviews, site visits and engineering assessments
• Work with manufacturing teams and produce test specifications, installation method statements, inspection reports and quality records
• Design new and retrofit control panels, motor control centres, power distribution, data racks, HMI panels and machine interfaces
• Undertake cable sizing, fuse sizing, load calculations, component selection and I/O interfacing
• Oversee sub-contractor manufacturing and prepare installation instructions, method statements and risk assessments

Required profile

• Degree or HNC (or equivalent experience) in Electrical or EC&I Engineering
• Experience delivering EC&I hardware design and designing control panels, MCCs or electrical enclosures
• Knowledge of IET Wiring Regulations and CDM Regulations
• Strong communication skills and ability to work within a project team
• Site inspection and survey experience or nuclear industry experience desirable

Required skills

• Strong experience using AutoCAD for electrical design
• Desirable: PLC / HMI / SCADA experience, familiarity with functional safety standards (e.g. IEC 61508), and BS 7671 wiring regulations certification
