Interim Head of Finance / Finance Director (Fixed-term)

About the role

Bellway is seeking an experienced finance professional to join its Durham Division on a fixed‑term basis as Interim Head of Finance / Finance Director. The role sits on the senior management team and is responsible for driving the division’s financial performance, supporting the Managing Director in delivering the business plan and sustainable growth.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and own the division’s budget and forecast, ensuring accuracy and alignment with Group objectives.
• Review and challenge land acquisition proposals, including financial assumptions and VAT considerations.
• Lead the divisional finance team, overseeing month‑end processes, management reporting and compliance with the Group Accounting Manual.
• Manage treasury functions, producing daily and monthly cash‑flow forecasts and ensuring adherence to the Prompt Payment Code.
• Coordinate with HR, payroll, IT and fleet functions as the primary divisional contact.
• Oversee tax compliance for VAT, CIS, payroll taxes, corporation tax and residential property developer tax.
• Collaborate with the Sales Director to forecast valuation revenues for quarterly reporting.

Required profile

• Proven senior finance leadership experience, preferably within construction or house‑building sectors.
• Strong commercial acumen with the ability to critically review and challenge business decisions.
• Demonstrated ability to manage large budgets, forecasts and cash‑flow planning.
• Experience working with external auditors and ensuring timely year‑end and half‑year reporting.
