KS3 Transition Teacher – Primary Expertise Required

About the role

St Michael’s Catholic College is launching a two‑year pilot KS3 Transition Provision to support Year 7 and 8 pupils working below age‑related expectations. The Transition Teacher will bridge primary expertise and secondary curriculum, delivering core subjects to small groups and helping students build the knowledge and skills needed for mainstream classes.

Key responsibilities

• Adapt and deliver English, Maths, History and Geography curricula for small groups of KS3 students.
• Provide targeted support to Year 7 and 8 learners who are below expected levels.
• Collaborate with senior staff to shape and evaluate the pilot cross‑phase initiative.
• Create a supportive, inclusive learning environment that promotes confidence and progress.
• Contribute to safeguarding and pastoral care responsibilities.

Required profile

• Experienced primary‑phase teacher with a passion for literacy and numeracy development.
• Enthusiastic, committed and able to work effectively in a secondary school setting.
• Willingness to develop leadership skills and contribute to an innovative programme.
• Alignment with the Catholic ethos and a strong safeguarding mindset.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of primary pedagogy, especially in literacy and numeracy.
• Ability to adapt curriculum content for diverse learner needs.
• Effective classroom management for small‑group instruction.
• Excellent communication and collaboration with staff and students.
