Mechanical Engineer – Water & Wastewater (All Levels)

About the role

Egis is expanding its UK Water business and is looking for mechanical engineers at any seniority level to join a high‑growth, multidisciplinary team. You will work on nationally significant water and wastewater programmes, delivering sustainable and innovative treatment solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead mechanical design packages from feasibility through detailed design for major water and wastewater projects (e.g., AMP8, WINEP, SROs).
• Create P&IDs, perform equipment sizing calculations, and produce specifications, datasheets, schedules, and procurement documents for assets such as pumps, tanks, pipework and lifting systems.
• Conduct site visits for data acquisition and liaise with operators, technology providers and vendors.
• Participate in design risk management activities (HAZOP/SWIFT) and provide input to commissioning strategies and performance testing.
• Support delivery phases by reviewing contractor submissions, answering design queries, and assisting with handover/commissioning.
• Contribute to business development, bid preparation and opportunity identification.
• Assist with recruitment, mentoring and team development.

Required profile

• BEng/MEng (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
• Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards chartership, depending on level.
• Experience in mechanical design for water and wastewater infrastructure is essential.

Required skills

• Mechanical design and engineering of water/wastewater assets.
• Production of P&IDs and equipment sizing calculations.
• Preparation of specifications, datasheets, schedules and procurement documentation.
• Knowledge of pumps, tanks, pipework and lifting systems.
• Design risk management techniques such as HAZOP and SWIFT.
• Commissioning strategy development and performance testing.
