About the role
Egis is expanding its UK Water business and is looking for mechanical engineers at any seniority level to join a high‑growth, multidisciplinary team. You will work on nationally significant water and wastewater programmes, delivering sustainable and innovative treatment solutions.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and lead mechanical design packages from feasibility through detailed design for major water and wastewater projects (e.g., AMP8, WINEP, SROs).
- Create P&IDs, perform equipment sizing calculations, and produce specifications, datasheets, schedules, and procurement documents for assets such as pumps, tanks, pipework and lifting systems.
- Conduct site visits for data acquisition and liaise with operators, technology providers and vendors.
- Participate in design risk management activities (HAZOP/SWIFT) and provide input to commissioning strategies and performance testing.
- Support delivery phases by reviewing contractor submissions, answering design queries, and assisting with handover/commissioning.
- Contribute to business development, bid preparation and opportunity identification.
- Assist with recruitment, mentoring and team development.
Required profile
- BEng/MEng (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering.
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards chartership, depending on level.
- Experience in mechanical design for water and wastewater infrastructure is essential.
Required skills
- Mechanical design and engineering of water/wastewater assets.
- Production of P&IDs and equipment sizing calculations.
- Preparation of specifications, datasheets, schedules and procurement documentation.
- Knowledge of pumps, tanks, pipework and lifting systems.
- Design risk management techniques such as HAZOP and SWIFT.
- Commissioning strategy development and performance testing.
