Opto Mechanical Engineer

About the role

The Opto Mechanical Engineer will join Infleqtion’s quantum computing team, supporting the design, build and testing of optomechanical systems that deliver laser beams to atom‑based quantum processors. Working across our Kidlington (Oxford) office and the National Quantum Computing Centre in Harwell, you will translate experimental concepts into engineered solutions in a hybrid on‑site/remote environment.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with physicists and multidisciplinary engineers to define optomechanical system requirements.
• Design, assemble and test beam‑delivery subsystems from component level to large assemblies containing hundreds of precisely aligned optics.
• Use simulation tools such as SolidWorks Simulation, ANSYS and Zeemax to evaluate optical and mechanical performance.
• Create detailed CAD models, drawings and documentation following company standards.
• Develop manufacturing processes ensuring repeatable assembly and alignment.
• Characterise optomechanical components and systems for performance, reliability and stability through structured test plans.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics or a related field.
• At least two years of relevant experience in optomechanical or optical system design.
