Principal Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Hoare Lea is seeking a creative and driven Principal Mechanical Engineer to join its Cambridge office. You will lead the mechanical design of a variety of built‑environment projects, working within a multidisciplinary team to deliver high‑quality, sustainable solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain strong client relationships, identifying future opportunities.
• Promote Hoare Lea’s full range of services and contribute to bid preparation.
• Define project briefs with clients, take ownership and deliver profitable schemes.
• Lead large‑scale schemes, coordinating all disciplines and acting as the main client contact throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support multidisciplinary teams to ensure consistent, high‑quality service delivery.

Required profile

• Proven experience in mechanical engineering within the built environment.
• Ability to manage complex projects and drive profitability.
• Strong communication skills for client liaison and team coordination.
• Creative problem‑solver with a passion for sustainable design.
