Project Engineer – Piping & Structural Steel

About the role

Avantis Group is seeking a Project Engineer to join its Head Office in Cardiff and support EPC projects across Europe. The role focuses on piping systems, structural steelwork, and fabrication activities, providing technical coordination, site support, and contractor supervision.

Key responsibilities

• Review and coordinate piping design drawings, including P&IDs, isometrics and general arrangement drawings.
• Ensure compliance with project specifications, ASME, API and other relevant codes.
• Monitor fabrication and erection of piping systems, supporting hydro‑testing, flushing and pre‑commissioning.
• Manage material take‑offs, delivery checks and traceability.
• Resolve technical site issues related to routing, supports and interdisciplinary clashes.
• Review structural steel drawings, connection details and erection sequences.
• Supervise fabrication, welding and installation of structural steel, ensuring alignment, levelling and tolerances.
• Support welding inspections, NDT activities and follow‑up on non‑conformances.
• Monitor workshop fabrication progress, verify compliance with WPS/PQR procedures and review inspection reports.
• Coordinate Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), material inspections and supplier quality activities.
• Provide day‑to‑day engineering support to construction teams, interface with subcontractors and resolve logistical issues.
• Participate in toolbox talks, site safety meetings and promote a strong safety culture.
• Support commissioning, mechanical completion, punch‑list clearance and hand‑over documentation.
• Track engineering and fabrication progress, contribute to project reporting and assist with schedule and cost monitoring.
