Quality Inspector – Incoming & Outgoing Inspection

About the role

The Quality Inspector will perform incoming and outgoing inspections of components and finished goods, support RMA administration, and work with all departments on continuous‑improvement projects. The role is based at Thorlabs' purpose‑built facility near Cambridge.

Key responsibilities

• Process incoming and outgoing RMA shipments for internal and external customers.
• Provide measurement services to verify dimensional and visual specifications of components and assemblies.
• Operate manual measuring equipment within the metrology area.
• Develop and maintain SOPs and inspection methodologies for current and future products.
• Liaise with production team leaders when inspection faults are identified.
• Escalate recurring quality issues to the Quality Engineering team for root‑cause analysis and corrective action.
• Communicate effectively with suppliers and customers regarding RMA, NCR, and corrective status.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a similar quality inspection role is preferred.
• Good understanding of metrology and measurement principles.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation.
• Detail‑oriented with strong problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Self‑motivated, able to multitask and work independently.
