Secondary School Teaching Assistant

About the role

Join a high‑achieving secondary school in Preston as a Teaching Assistant, supporting students aged 11‑16 through key stages 3 and 4. The role offers a proactive environment for experienced assistants, recent graduates, or anyone with transferable youth‑work skills.

Key responsibilities

• Provide one‑to‑one and small‑group academic support in English, Maths, Science and foundation subjects.
• Assist pupils with SEND needs, including ADHD, ASC, dyslexia and SEMH.
• Help maintain classroom focus, de‑escalate disruptions and promote positive engagement.
• Act as a mentor and role model to build confidence and resilience.

Required profile

• Previous experience working with secondary‑age youth in a school, youth group, sports coaching, tutoring or care setting.
• Strong GCSE‑level knowledge in core subjects to support curriculum content.
• Calm, authoritative and empathetic communication style.
• Enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one before September).

• Full‑time, term‑time role (Monday‑Friday, 8:30‑15:30).
• Pay rate of £85‑£100+ per day, PAYE.
