Senior Accountant – Costing & Analytics

About the role

The Senior Accountant (Costing & Analytics) will lead the development and implementation of a patient‑level costing model for NHS Borders, linking clinical activity to financial data and supporting strategic analytics across the board.

Key responsibilities

• Design and maintain a new costing model that connects patient activity with costs.
• Produce annual costing returns and benchmark NHS Borders against comparable health organisations.
• Collaborate with Finance Business Partners, clinicians, and service managers to ensure data quality and relevance.
• Modernise the directorate’s business analytics processes, including data collection, storage, and utilisation.
• Support quality‑improvement initiatives through robust financial analysis.

Required profile

• Qualified or final‑stage CCAB/CIMA professional with a specialist interest in costing.
• Proven experience handling complex financial and non‑financial datasets.
• Strong collaborative approach, able to work with clinical and operational stakeholders.
• High level of IT literacy and a solid understanding of cost accounting and business analytics.
