Senior Backend Engineer – FinTech Payments

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join a high‑growth UK payments fintech. You will help shape the architecture of a disruptive, cloud‑native payments platform and deliver end‑to‑end features that power B2B transactions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and evolution of B2B APIs and payments infrastructure.
• Make architectural decisions across distributed, event‑driven systems.
• Collaborate with Product and UX teams during discovery and solution design.
• Own features from concept through production, ensuring high quality and reliability.
• Mentor junior engineers and raise engineering standards.
• Champion best practices in testing, CI/CD, and security.

Required profile

• 8+ years of software engineering experience.
• At least 2 years in financial services (payments, banking) or a high‑volume transaction environment.
• Strong backend expertise with Node.js and TypeScript.
• Proven track record building and maintaining public REST APIs.
• Solid experience with AWS (Terraform a plus; Kubernetes a strong bonus).
• Comfortable working with distributed, event‑driven architectures.
• Delivery‑focused mindset and ability to thrive in fast‑moving scale‑up environments.
