Senior Fire Safety Officer (Fixed‑term)

About the role

Torbay Council is seeking a Senior Fire Safety Officer to lead fire safety across its diverse portfolio of historic, commercial and residential assets in South Devon. This fixed‑term position offers the chance to shape fire risk management in a dynamic public‑sector environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain fire risk assessment programmes, policies and procedures that meet legal standards.
• Work closely with contractors, service managers and the Property Services team to implement effective fire safety measures.
• Produce comprehensive fire risk assessment reports and data‑driven recommendations.
• Promote a positive fire safety culture throughout all council activities.
• Support innovative solutions and the adoption of new technologies in fire safety management.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in fire safety management, preferably within the public sector.
• Strong investigative, inspection and auditing capabilities.
• Ability to communicate clearly and fluently in English.
• Willingness to work on‑site in Torbay and engage with a range of stakeholders.
