Subcontract Manager – Procurement & Supply Chain

About the role

The Subcontract Manager will lead procurement and supply‑chain activities for Babcock’s Mission Systems business, supporting high‑value space and defence programmes. You will shape commercial strategies, manage a £100m annual portfolio and work closely with senior leaders to ensure resilient supply solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute end‑to‑end procurement and supply‑chain strategy for a £100m+ portfolio.
• Manage performance across a diverse, strategically important supplier base.
• Identify and mitigate risks while uncovering commercial opportunities throughout the supply lifecycle.
• Ensure all subcontract agreements comply with prime contracts, legal standards, regulatory frameworks and trade controls.
• Lead, coach and develop a high‑performing procurement team, raising commercial capability across the function.
• Work in a hybrid model (onsite and remote) within a 37‑hour work week.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in procurement, supply‑chain and commercial management within complex, high‑value environments.
• Proven ability to draft, negotiate and manage large, complex subcontracts.
• Strong leadership experience with a track record of developing teams.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, capable of influencing senior leaders.
• Deep knowledge of contract law, supplier performance management, risk management and commercial governance.

Required skills

• CIPS, IACCM/WorldCC or equivalent professional accreditation.
• Degree in Business, Commercial Management, Law or a related discipline.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Security Check (SC) clearance.
