Traffic Engineer

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Traffic Engineer to join a local authority in Bristol on a contract basis. The role involves delivering a variety of traffic and highway improvement schemes across South Gloucestershire, from initial concept through to construction completion.

Key responsibilities

• Design and supervise traffic engineering schemes, including pedestrian and cycle routes, traffic calming, speed limit reviews and waiting restriction schemes.
• Liaise with internal teams on street lighting, structures and traffic signals.
• Prepare construction information and Health & Safety documentation in line with CDM Regulations.
• Monitor project budgets and programme delivery.
• Conduct public consultations and engage with residents, councillors and parish councils.
• Work with legal teams to advertise Traffic Regulation Orders and prepare objection reports.
• Provide design support during construction and attend site visits as required.

Required profile

• Qualified Traffic Engineer with proven highways and traffic engineering experience.
• Strong knowledge of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB).
• Thorough understanding of the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions (TSRGD) and the Traffic Signs Manual.
• Experience preparing and delivering traffic management and highway improvement schemes.
• Full, current UK driving licence.
