Trainer/Assessor – Learning & Competency Development

About the role

Our client, a leading operator of bulk fuel storage sites across the UK, is creating a new position to lead learning, training and assessment for all site roles, primarily in Scotland. You will work closely with the Competency Assurance Manager and HR Director to embed a competency management system and drive continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and deliver training and assessment programmes for operational and engineering staff.
• Coach and coordinate Depot Assessors and support sites that are not yet engaged with the competency programme.
• Identify training gaps from failed assessments and develop targeted learning solutions.
• Measure training effectiveness, analyse feedback and report progress to senior leadership.
• Collaborate with functional leaders to align competency initiatives with business objectives.
• Support capital projects by identifying training needs before equipment commissioning.
• Assist Depot Managers in updating operating manuals, procedures and activity‑based learning material.

Required profile

• Proven experience as an Operations Trainer/Assessor in a Major Accident Hazard environment.
• Degree or equivalent qualification in Training & Development, plus a Level 4 qualification in an operational or engineering discipline.
• Strong knowledge of competence management systems and competency‑based assessment.
• Excellent analytical and communication skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
