1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant – Primary

About the role

We are looking for a compassionate 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to work with a verbal, low‑level ASD child in a Year 3 classroom at a primary school in Wythenshawe, Manchester. You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to ensure the child receives tailored support and can fully participate in daily activities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 assistance to the identified child throughout the school day.
• Help the child understand and complete classroom tasks and activities.
• Implement individualized strategies and interventions to support learning and development.
• Promote a positive, inclusive environment that builds the child’s confidence and independence.
• Collaborate with the teacher and SENCO to monitor progress and adjust support plans as needed.

Required profile

• Previous experience supporting children with special educational needs, particularly verbal, low‑level ASD.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with students.
• Patience, empathy, and a compassionate approach to diverse learning needs.
• Ability to work as part of a team and follow direction from senior staff.
• Commitment to inclusion, diversity, and equality in education.

Required skills

• Experience with individualized educational support strategies.
• Knowledge of SENCO processes and classroom integration techniques.
