Accounts Assistant

About the role

The role is a permanent, full‑time Accounts Assistant based in Manchester city centre, supporting the finance team of a well‑established SME consultancy. Reporting to the Senior Accountant, you will help run the day‑to‑day finance function for a business with high‑profile clients.

Key responsibilities

• Processing purchase invoices, managing supplier payments and maintaining the purchase ledger.
• Credit control – chasing outstanding invoices and maintaining accurate debtor records.
• Bank reconciliations and daily cash management.
• Supporting month‑end accounts preparation and financial reporting.
• Assisting with payroll processing and employee expense management.
• Maintaining accurate financial records and supporting audit preparation.
• Identifying and supporting improvements to financial processes and systems.
• Providing general finance administrative support to the wider team.

Required profile

• At least 6 months’ experience in an accounts or administrative role.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
• Experience with Sage accounting software is an advantage.
• Organised, accurate and able to manage multiple tasks to deadlines.
• Strong communicator who works well within a collaborative team.
• Genuine interest in developing a finance career and willingness to study AAT.
