Accounts & Credit Control Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Accounts & Credit Control Manager to lead the day‑to‑day finance function of a growing specialist food importer and distributor. Based in Birmingham, you will work closely with sales, operations and senior management to ensure accurate bookkeeping, invoicing and credit control.

Key responsibilities

• Raise sales invoices from proof‑of‑delivery, warehouse dispatches and direct‑factory orders.
• Post purchase invoices, expenses and supplier credit notes in Sage 50 Accounts.
• Maintain accurate customer, supplier and product records.
• Own credit control – chase debts, issue statements, monitor credit limits and manage customer communications.
• Post customer payments and allocate receipts against invoices.
• Issue credit notes and support claims, shortages and damages with management approval.
• Complete bank reconciliations and keep cash and ledger records up to date.
• Prepare reports for month‑end management accounts and support VAT return preparation.
• Submit credit insurance claims and assist with CCJ recovery processes.
• Monitor late payers and provide data for credit‑risk decisions.

Required profile

• Strong hands‑on experience with Sage 50 Accounts (essential).
• Solid background in sales ledger, purchase ledger, bookkeeping and credit control.
• Good working knowledge of VAT and month‑end accounting procedures.
• Confident in contacting customers directly to resolve outstanding balances.
• Ability to maintain organised, audit‑ready accounting records.
