Assistant Accountant – Finance Operations

About the role

We are looking for an Assistant Accountant to join our finance team in Liss. This hands‑on position will manage day‑to‑day transactional accounting and support the production of monthly management information, offering the chance to improve existing processes within a growing SME.

Key responsibilities

• Manage purchase and sales ledger functions, processing supplier invoices and raising sales invoices.
• Perform daily bank reconciliations and maintain accurate cash records.
• Prepare and run weekly payment runs, reconciling supplier, customer and inter‑company accounts.
• Handle petty cash, company credit‑card reconciliations and employee expense claims.
• Maintain financial records, filing systems and the fixed‑asset register with depreciation schedules.
• Assist with month‑end procedures including accruals, pre‑payments, balance‑sheet reconciliations and support the preparation of monthly management accounts.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a finance or accounts assistant role.
• Strong knowledge of purchase ledger, sales ledger, bank reconciliations and payment processing.
• Experience supporting month‑end activities.
• Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational abilities.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize workload and communicate effectively.

Required skills

• Good proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Confidence using accounting software, preferably Sage 50.
