Assistant Accountant

About the role

Robert Half is recruiting an Assistant Accountant for a fast‑growing media business in Manchester. The position offers a hands‑on, varied finance experience within a collaborative, high‑tempo environment, supporting senior colleagues across the month‑end cycle and daily accounting tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in preparing monthly management accounts and completing month‑end close.
• Post journals, accruals, pre‑payments and perform balance‑sheet reconciliations.
• Maintain purchase and sales ledgers, including supplier and customer reconciliations.
• Process payment runs, monitor cash flow and support credit control.
• Liaise with the outsourced payroll provider to aid payroll preparation.
• Prepare VAT returns and keep financial records up‑to‑date.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and ad‑hoc financial analysis.
• Work with senior finance staff on reporting, controls and process improvements.

Required profile

• Previous experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar finance role.
• Studying towards ACCA or CIMA (or equivalent qualification).
• Strong understanding of month‑end processes and double‑entry bookkeeping.
• Excellent attention to detail, organisational ability and proactive attitude.
• Effective communication skills and ability to build relationships across the business.
