Assistant Restaurant Manager

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic Assistant Restaurant Manager to join our Food & Beverage team at the historic Thornbury Castle. You will help deliver 5‑star hospitality in a uniquely restored Tudor castle, supporting the F&B Operations Manager across all service periods.

Key responsibilities

• Support the F&B Operations Manager in daily operations, covering breakfast, afternoon tea, dinner and private functions for up to 80 guests.
• Take full responsibility for the department in the manager’s absence, ensuring service standards meet Relais & Châteaux and Rosette criteria.
• Handle guest queries, dietary requirements and complaints with professionalism and calm.
• Maintain health, safety and food‑safety procedures, and ensure all operational policies are up‑to‑date.
• Assist with rota planning, recruitment, staff supervision and training.
• Monitor financial and HR processes within the department.

Required profile

• Previous experience in a Relais & Châteaux or Rosette‑rated restaurant.
• Strong personal presentation and communication skills.
• Calm, mature attitude with a passion for hospitality.
• Ambition to progress to senior management levels.

Required skills

• Knowledge of traditional cocktails, wine and spirits (qualification preferred).
• Understanding of health, safety and food‑safety regulations.

• Competitive salary of £30,000 per annum.
• Additional service charge and tips (approximately £2‑3K per year).
• Full‑time permanent contract – 40 hours per week, mainly evenings and weekends.
