Assistant Tax Manager

About the role

We are seeking an Assistant Tax Manager to join a well‑established firm in Birmingham. The role works closely with directors and international offices, offering exposure to complex UK tax matters and a clear path towards manager level.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of clients, ensuring UK tax compliance.
• Prepare and review UK tax returns, identifying issues and ensuring accuracy.
• Support managers and directors on complex returns and advisory projects.
• Oversee and mentor junior staff, reviewing their work and monitoring deadlines.
• Assist with client queries and develop client‑facing skills.
• Coordinate with internal teams and international offices as required.
• Research technical tax issues and develop independent judgement.

Required profile

• Strong experience in personal tax compliance and review.
• CTA qualification (or near completion) – desirable but not essential.
• Exposure to double tax treaties, residency and international tax matters.
• Ability to work autonomously with appropriate escalation.
• Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Ambition to progress to manager level.
