Associate Director, Global Communications

About the role

Communications play a central role in the Open Society Foundations, coordinating and strengthening the public presence of the global network. The Associate Director, Global Communications will develop and implement communications and media strategies that position key messages, people and grantees across global thematic, advocacy and regional priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of Communications Officers to design and execute communications strategies for assigned geographies and global priorities.
• Draft speeches, op‑eds, press releases, social content and other communications materials.
• Manage media relationships with top‑tier global, European and MENA outlets and secure high‑profile opportunities.
• Coordinate communications outreach at international events such as UNGA, COP, IMF/WB meetings and G20.
• Identify communications risks and develop mitigation strategies.

Required profile

• Degree‑level education or equivalent.
• Proven experience managing external communications for international NGOs, public or private sectors, or as a journalist.
• People‑management experience with cross‑border teams.
• Deep knowledge of Europe or MENA geographies and of human‑rights, democratic practice, equity and justice.

Required skills

• Excellent English‑language writing, editing and verbal communication.
• Working knowledge of written and spoken French or Arabic.
