Behaviour Support Assistant – Cheltenham Primary School

About the role

We are looking for a compassionate Behaviour Support Assistant to join a mainstream primary school in Cheltenham. The role involves supporting pupils across Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 who have behavioural or special educational needs, helping them manage emotions and engage with learning.

Key responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small‑group support for children with behavioural and SEND needs, assisting them to regulate emotions and participate fully in class.
• Implement tailored behaviour‑management strategies and support de‑escalation of challenging situations.
• Work closely with teachers, the SENCO and parents to develop and review individualised support plans.
• Promote a calm, structured and inclusive learning environment throughout lessons, break times and school activities.

Required profile

• Patient, empathetic and adaptable, able to respond calmly in challenging situations.
• Experience or a strong interest in supporting children with behavioural or emotional needs, preferably within a SEND setting.
• Genuine passion for helping young learners thrive and reach their full potential.
