BSL Teaching Assistant – Year 6 Support (Full‑time)

About the role

This full‑time, temporary position starts in September and provides dedicated 1:1 support to a Year 6 pupil with a hearing impairment in a welcoming primary school in Newham. The assistant will use British Sign Language to help the child access the curriculum and develop independence.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver 1:1 BSL support throughout the school day, ensuring the pupil can follow lessons and participate in activities.
• Collaborate with the class teacher, SENDCo and external specialists to adapt learning materials and reinforce content.
• Promote the pupil’s social integration and confidence within the school community.
• Monitor progress and report observations to senior staff.

Required profile

• Experience using British Sign Language in an educational setting.
• Proven ability to support pupils with hearing impairments on a 1:1 basis.
• Passion for inclusive education and helping children overcome learning barriers.
