Childcare Paralegal

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Childcare Paralegal to join a busy Family Law department in Birmingham. The successful candidate will support solicitors on public law children and care‑proceedings matters, providing both legal and administrative assistance from initial instruction through to case conclusion.

Key responsibilities

• Assist solicitors on public law childcare and Legal Aid cases, handling instructions, drafting documents and preparing court bundles.
• Meet clients, take instructions and prepare attendance notes with sensitivity.
• Draft witness statements, position statements, applications, briefs to Counsel and correspondence.
• Manage electronic case files and ensure accurate storage within the firm’s case‑management system.
• Support new client enquiries and maintain ongoing professional support throughout matters.

Required profile

• Minimum 12 months experience in a Family Law department, preferably with public law children or care‑proceedings work.
• Strong understanding of Family Law principles and Legal Aid processes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to build rapport with vulnerable clients.
• Highly organised, detail‑oriented and able to prioritise competing deadlines.
• Proactive, flexible and able to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
