Childcare Paralegal

About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Childcare Paralegal to join our busy Family Law department in Birmingham. The role supports public‑law children matters, providing both legal and administrative assistance to vulnerable clients. You will work closely with experienced solicitors and develop your expertise in a respected legal practice.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal and administrative support on public‑law childcare and Legal Aid cases from instruction to conclusion.
• Meet clients, take instructions and prepare attendance notes.
• Draft legal documents such as witness statements, position statements, applications, briefs to Counsel and correspondence.
• Prepare court bundles and organise evidence for hearings.
• Manage electronic case files and ensure accurate storage within the firm’s case‑management system.
• Assist with new client enquiries and provide ongoing support throughout matters.

Required profile

• Minimum 12 months experience in a Family Law department, preferably with public‑law children or care proceedings.
• Strong understanding of Family Law principles and Legal Aid processes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with the ability to build rapport with vulnerable clients.
• Highly organised, able to prioritise competing deadlines and pay close attention to detail.
• Proactive, flexible, and able to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Professional, empathetic and client‑focused attitude.
