Commercial Underwriter – Birmingham

About the role

Stride Resource Management is an established and growing underwriting business seeking a Commercial Underwriter to join its Commercial team in Birmingham. This role offers a developmental pathway for candidates with insurance, broking or underwriting experience, providing exposure to a varied commercial portfolio and long‑term career potential.

Key responsibilities

• Support new business, renewals, mid‑term adjustments and cancellations.
• Review risks, prepare documentation and assist underwriting decisions.
• Build strong relationships with brokers and deliver responsive service.
• Support reporting, monitoring and data analysis across the portfolio.
• Identify trends, anomalies and emerging risks, escalating where appropriate.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with governance standards.

Required profile

• Experience in an insurance, broking or underwriting environment.
• Strong attention to detail, commercial awareness and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Genuine interest in underwriting and desire for a long‑term career in the market.
• Organisational, methodical approach and confidence working with data and systems.
• Proactive attitude, willingness to learn and ability to build internal and external relationships.
• CII qualifications or willingness to work towards them are beneficial.
