Commercial Underwriter

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Commercial Underwriter to join a market‑leading specialist insurance company in Birmingham. You will manage a portfolio of commercial property and liability business, develop broker relationships and contribute to the growth of the team across the Midlands.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and grow new business, renewals, rating and adjustment enquiries for an allocated client portfolio.
• Develop and manage a panel of brokers to increase market share in property, liability and combined commercial lines.
• Review and sign off referrals from Assistant Underwriters within underwriting authority.
• Compile, interpret and present statistical data to support decision‑making.
• Handle technical claim cover requests and liaise with brokers, insurers, accounts and claims teams.

Required profile

• Proven experience in commercial underwriting or commercial broking.
• Strong understanding of risk exposure and ability to assess complex risks.
• Experience planning and prioritising client renewals and identifying business opportunities.
• Relevant qualifications such as CII Certificate or Diploma (or equivalent).
• Excellent communication, numeracy and attention to detail.
