Company Accountant – Travel Industry (Birmingham)

About the role

We are seeking a detail‑oriented Company Accountant to join a leading travel organisation in Birmingham. You will own the day‑to‑day financial operations, ensure regulatory compliance and support strategic decision‑making in a fast‑paced travel environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet and cash flow statements.
• Manage revenue recognition for travel bookings and packages.
• Ensure compliance with ATOL and ABTA regulations, including reporting and licence renewals.
• Handle VAT returns and the Travel Operators Margin Scheme (TOMS).
• Oversee cash‑flow forecasting, working capital and annual budgeting.
• Process payments to hotels, airlines and other travel suppliers.
• Enhance financial systems, controls and reporting processes.

Required profile

• Fully or part‑qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
• Proven experience in a similar role within travel, tourism or hospitality.
• Strong understanding of UK VAT and travel‑specific tax schemes.
• Experience with ATOL and/or ABTA compliance.

Required skills

• Proficiency with accounting software such as Xero or Sage.
• Knowledge of ATOL compliance reporting.
• Knowledge of ABTA financial requirements.
• Understanding of the Travel Operators Margin Scheme (TOMS) for VAT.
