Consultant Addiction Psychiatrist

About the role

The NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking a Consultant Addiction Psychiatrist to join its multidisciplinary addiction services. Working across Possilpark and Kirkintilloch Health and Care Centres, you will provide specialist leadership and clinical expertise for patients with opiate and alcohol dependency.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive psychiatric assessment and treatment for individuals with substance use disorders.
• Lead multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to service development.
• Participate in research projects, teaching activities, and clinical audits.
• Collaborate with community, inpatient, and liaison services to ensure integrated care.
• Support the recovery‑oriented system of care through clinical governance and innovation.

Required profile

• Full registration with the GMC.
• MRCPsych or FRCPsych qualification.
• Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) or eligibility for specialist registration.
• Eligibility for approval under the Scottish Mental Health Act as an AMP.
• Experience in addiction psychiatry within the UK, or within six months of confirmed entry.

Required skills

• Clinical assessment and management of alcohol and opiate dependence.
• Prescribing for substance‑use disorders.
• Knowledge of the Scottish Mental Health Act.
• Leadership in a multidisciplinary clinical environment.
