Costs Draftsperson – Legal Services

About the role

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Costs Draftsperson to join a growing national legal team. You will prepare Bills of Costs for detailed and provisional assessments, manage litigation of bills through the courts, and may attend advocacy hearings where appropriate. The role also involves regular client interaction, providing updates, taking instructions and offering technical support to fee earners across the wider legal team.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare Bills of Costs for detailed and provisional assessments.
• Litigate bills through the court process.
• Attend advocacy hearings where experience and senior agreement allow.
• Maintain regular communication with clients, providing updates and taking instructions.
• Offer technical support to fee earners across the legal department.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years’ experience in costs drafting (in‑house or external provider).
• Strong interest in building a career within costs law.
• Good understanding of legal procedures.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
• Professional communication skills and a confident manner.
• Comfortable engaging with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
• Desirable: ACL qualification or ILEX Part 1 (Year 1).
• Desirable: exposure to other legal departments or broader litigation experience.
