Costs Negotiator – Legal Claims

About the role

Keoghs is seeking an experienced Costs Negotiator to join its Legacy, Abuse, Military & Corporate Risks team in Liverpool. You will manage a full caseload from initial instruction through to settlement across a range of claim types.

Key responsibilities

• Review cases to develop initial costs strategy and settlement parameters.
• Prepare points of dispute and consider replies.
• Identify strengths and weaknesses of own and opponent’s costs claims.
• Negotiate settlements via telephone and written correspondence.
• Update clients on progress and ensure compliance with SLAs.
• Instruct counsel, attend conferences, detailed assessment hearings and mediations.
• Attend court for application hearings and conduct advocacy.
• Delegate tasks to a Paralegal and support their development.

Required profile

• Minimum 12 months experience as a Costs Negotiator handling own caseload.
• Degree and/or LPC and/or ALCD qualification.
• Experience in client liaison, taking instructions and providing advice.
• Familiarity with the Detailed Assessment process, including points of dispute.
• Strong telephone negotiation skills and ability to work under pressure.
