Criminal Solicitor – Telford

About the role

We are partnering with an established legal practice in Telford to recruit an experienced Criminal Solicitor for their busy criminal defence team. The role involves managing a full caseload, providing high‑quality advice and representing clients from police stations through to Magistrates’ and, where qualified, Crown Court.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a varied criminal defence caseload from initial instruction to conclusion.
• Provide clear, practical legal advice and take detailed client instructions.
• Attend police stations, conduct client interviews and represent clients in Magistrates’ Court.
• Prepare and advocate in Crown Court matters where appropriately qualified.
• Assess prosecution evidence, identify weaknesses and devise defence strategies.
• Prepare legal documentation, statements, applications and representations.
• Liaise with barristers, experts and other professionals as required.
• Maintain accurate case records, meet deadlines and ensure compliance with SRA and Legal Aid requirements.

Required profile

• Qualified Solicitor of England and Wales with a current practising certificate.
• Proven experience in criminal defence, including police station and Magistrates’ Court work.
• Strong advocacy, negotiation and communication abilities.
• Excellent client‑care skills, especially with vulnerable or distressed clients.
• Organised, able to manage a busy caseload and tight deadlines.
• Practical, analytical and client‑focused approach, capable of working independently and as part of a team.
• Desirable: Duty Solicitor accreditation, Higher Rights of Audience (Crime), Crown Court advocacy experience.
