Data Protection & Information Security Assistant (Birmingham)

About the role

Our client, a fast‑growing tech firm in Birmingham, is seeking a Data Protection & Information Security Assistant. The role supports the Information Governance Manager in ensuring compliance with UK data protection legislation and contributes to the company’s overall information security posture.

Key responsibilities

• Process Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs) in line with UK data protection laws.
• Assist with reviewing and responding to data‑protection related complaints.
• Support the DPO with routine audits of data processors, information assets, cookies and international transfers.
• Draft and review basic data‑protection policies and procedures under supervision.
• Help maintain ISO compliance and provide cyber‑support where required.
• Implement and monitor data retention policies.
• Conduct ad‑hoc research on data‑protection matters and keep abreast of updates to UK regulations, ICO guidance and enforcement activity.
• Maintain accurate team documentation.

Required profile

• Strong interest in legal data‑protection regulations and compliance.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for extensive stakeholder engagement.
• Degree in Law or a related discipline is desirable.
• Attention to detail and ability to work independently in a collaborative environment.

Required skills

• Familiarity with UK data‑protection legislation (GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018).
• Understanding of ISO standards related to information security.
• Ability to handle DSARs and draft basic policy documents.
