Data Science Manager

About the role

Elsevier’s Corporate Markets Data Science team is looking for a Data Science Manager to lead a group of data scientists focused on life‑sciences products. You will set strategy, manage delivery, and ensure rigorous, production‑ready AI solutions for customers in pharma, biotech, and research.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, coach and develop a team of data scientists, defining priorities and operating rhythm aligned with business goals.
• Oversee the design and delivery of machine‑learning, NLP, knowledge‑graph and generative‑AI models for tasks such as classification, entity extraction, ranking and recommendation.
• Partner with product, engineering and domain experts to build scalable, maintainable pipelines and production‑ready services.
• Define evaluation frameworks, A/B testing and responsible‑AI practices to ensure model quality, fairness and transparency.

Required profile

• Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Bioinformatics or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Significant experience in data‑science, machine‑learning, NLP or information‑retrieval, with a track record of leading technical teams.
• Strong communication and stakeholder‑management skills, able to translate business needs into data‑science projects.

Required skills

• Python programming.
• Experience with modern AI frameworks such as Databricks, PyTorch, Hugging Face, LangChain, LangGraph, Haystack, MLflow.
• Hands‑on work with large language models (LLMs), retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG) pipelines and embeddings.
