Deputy Charge Nurse – Clinical Leadership

About the role

The Deputy Charge Nurse provides leadership for the delivery of patient care within an assigned area, stepping in for the Senior Charge Nurse when required. This role is part of a multidisciplinary team and focuses on maintaining high‑quality care, clinical governance, and staff oversight.

Key responsibilities

• Provide leadership for patient care within the designated area.
• Supervise and deploy nursing staff in the absence of the Senior Charge Nurse.
• Assess care needs, evaluate care plans and ensure delivery of high‑quality care.
• Maintain both clinical and staff governance, including compliance with NHS standards.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to service improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Registered nurse with experience in acute care settings.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and manage nursing staff.
• Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusive practice.
• Eligibility to work in the United Kingdom.
• Willingness to obtain PVG Scheme membership and undergo required criminal record checks.

Required skills

• Clinical assessment and care planning.

• Knowledge of NHS governance and patient safety standards.
