Diesel Engine Fitter – Field-Based

About the role

This contract position is for an experienced Diesel Engine Fitter working on rolling stock across the North West and surrounding regions. You will be based in the field, travelling to customer sites in Manchester, Leeds and Salisbury to carry out repairs, maintenance and overhauls on diesel engines fitted to rail vehicles.

Key responsibilities

• Perform mechanical maintenance and repairs on diesel engines in rolling stock.
• Carry out bearing replacements and other component changes.
• Diagnose engine faults and execute effective repairs.
• Complete planned and reactive maintenance activities on 10‑hour shifts.
• Travel to multiple customer sites and occasionally stay overnight.
• Document service work accurately and adhere to railway safety standards.

Required profile

• Previous experience with diesel engines in rolling stock, heavy plant, HGV or military sectors.
• Strong mechanical fault‑finding and repair capability.
• Experience with bearing changes and engine overhaul work.
• NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
