Director of SOX & Financial Controls

About the role

We are partnering with a global financial services organisation that is expanding its controls function. The Director of SOX & Financial Controls will lead the development of the SOX programme during a period of rapid growth and transformation, shaping the control environment rather than merely maintaining an existing one.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the annual SOX programme, including scoping, risk assessment, control design, testing and deficiency evaluation.
• Collaborate with Finance, Risk, Treasury, Operations and Front Office to understand processes and strengthen controls.
• Oversee SOX testing and remediation, remaining hands‑on for complex control areas.
• Support major business change, system transformations and integration of acquisitions from a controls perspective.
• Manage senior stakeholders and external auditors, providing clear reporting on risks, deficiencies and remediation.
• Identify opportunities to improve, rationalise and automate the SOX control framework.
• Develop and support members of the growing SOX team.

Required profile

• Strong SOX experience, including practical knowledge of SOX 302/404.
• Proven experience leading SOX programmes or significant workstreams.
• Financial services background, either in‑house or through substantial client exposure.
• Deep understanding of control design, testing, deficiencies and remediation.
• Comfortable building and improving processes within a developing control environment.
